Howe Sound Glass Sponge Reef Mapping

Location: Howe Sound, British Columbia
Date: 2018

LTEC compiled and analyzed glass sponge reef mapping information provided by the Marine Life Sanctuaries Society (MLSS) to inform Fisheries and Oceans Canada on the location and status of these sensitive benthic ecosystems in Howe Sound. The resulting report, along with the tremendous effort by MLSS into data collection, mapping, education and stakeholder consultations, has contributed to the protection of several glass sponge reefs in Howe Sound from bottom contact fishing in Howe Sound.
